What this site knows about you
Nothing. This page is the long version of that, and the two or three things that are genuinely worth knowing.

The short version
We do not set cookies. We do not run analytics. We do not load anything from another company. We do not ask you for your name, your email address, or anything else about you. There is no account to create and no form to fill in except the search box.
Everything below is a longer way of saying that, plus the two or three things that are genuinely worth knowing.
What we do not do
We set no cookies. Not one, on any page. There is no consent banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to.
We run no analytics. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no pixel, no heatmap, no session recorder, no error reporter. We do not know how many people visit a page or which pages are popular.
We load nothing from a third party. Every file your browser downloads to show you a page comes from this site. The two typefaces are stored inside our own stylesheet rather than fetched from a font service. There are no third party scripts, no embedded maps, no embedded video, and no images loaded from anywhere else. Almost every graphic on the site is drawn in the page itself. The two that are separate files, the small icon in your browser tab and the picture that shows when someone shares a page, are served from this site like everything else.
We store one thing in your browser, and it is not about you. On a page whose advertisement appears as a pop-up, closing it writes a single marker into your browser's local storage so that you are not asked again about that home. It records that one home's federal ID and nothing else: no name, no address, no history of what you looked at. It never leaves your browser and it is never sent to us or to anybody else. Clearing your browsing data removes it, and the only consequence is that the pop-up may appear once more.
Nothing else is stored. No session storage, no cookies, no other browser database.
We link out in exactly one place. A page carries a paid advertisement for Jehl Law Group when the federal record behind it shows abuse findings, immediate jeopardy, federal fines or a one or two star rating. That is true of a home's own page and of a state, county or town page where some of the homes show those things. The advertisement links to a form the firm runs on Lawmatics, and it is the only link on this site that leads to another company.
Nothing about you is sent with you. The link carries which page you were on and which of those four things put the advertisement there, so the firm can tell which pages are worth anything to them. That is all: no name, no browsing history, nothing that identifies you. If you follow it you are on the firm's system and their privacy policy applies, not ours. If you do not follow it, nothing about your visit reaches anybody.
What actually happens when you use the site
Reading a page. Your browser asks our server for the page, and the server sends it back. To do that, our server has to receive your IP address and the address of the page you asked for, the same as every website on the internet. Our own code does not read your IP address, your browser's user agent, or the page you came from, and it does not write any of them anywhere. We keep no visitor table, no log of our own, and no record of who read what. The company that hosts the site keeps its own request records, which is covered below.
Searching. The search box sends what you type to our own server so we can look it up. The words you type travel inside the web address of that request, which is how web search boxes normally work. We use the words to find matching homes and towns, we send the results back, and we keep nothing. Your search is not saved, not counted, and not connected to you. Our code reads only the first 120 characters of what you type. Everything you typed still travels in the web address, so that is a limit on what we look at, not a limit on what leaves your browser.
Looking up homes near a ZIP code. If you enter a ZIP code, it appears in the web address of the page you land on, for example /near/38117. It identifies a postal area, not a person. We do not save it. A ZIP code and whatever you type in the search box are the only two things this site ever asks you for.
One honest note about search wording. Because your search words travel in the web address, they can appear in the ordinary request records of any network between you and us, and in your own browser history. So do not type anything private into the search box. It only needs a town, a state, or a ZIP code.
Who else touches your request
The site runs on infrastructure we rent rather than machines we own.
- The website is hosted on Vercel, which receives every request in order to serve it and keeps its own operational and security records under its own terms.
- The data lives in a hosted database at Neon. The database holds federal records about nursing homes. It holds nothing about visitors. Every question the website asks it is a read. It has never been given anything to write.
The account the website uses to reach that database can only read. It is not able to change, add or delete anything, and that is enforced by the database itself rather than by our promise about the code.
We do not send your information to either of them beyond what is technically required to answer your request, and we do not sell or share anything about you with anybody, because we do not have anything to sell or share.
Caching
Pages on this site are marked as cacheable, which means a network cache or your own browser may keep a copy for a while and show it to you again without asking us. The two stylesheets, the typefaces inside one of them, and the one script are cached for longer, with a version stamp in their address so a new version replaces an old one cleanly. All of this makes the site fast. None of it involves any information about you, and none of it is used to recognize you on a later visit.
One part of this is worth spelling out. The answer the search box gets back is marked cacheable too, for an hour, and the words you typed are part of the address that answer is filed under. So a network cache between you and us may hold the answer to a search for an hour and hand it to the next person who types the same thing. It is an answer, not a record of you: it says nothing about who asked or when. But it is a second reason not to type anything private into the search box.
Children
This site is written for adults choosing care for an adult. It is not directed to children, and nothing on it is aimed at anyone under 13.
We do not knowingly collect information from a child under 13, which is easy to promise because we do not collect information from anyone of any age. There is no form, no account and no sign-up. If you believe a child has sent something to the address at the bottom of this page, write to us and we will delete it.
Do Not Track and global privacy signals
We do not track anyone, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. We respect them by never having collected anything in the first place.
Your rights
Privacy laws in several states and countries give people the right to see what a company holds about them, to correct it, and to have it deleted. We can answer any such request quickly, because the answer is that we hold nothing about you.
If you want to ask anyway, write to us at the postal address at the foot of this page.
If your question is about what this site says about a nursing home rather than about you, see the Corrections page instead. That is a different process and most of it runs through the federal government.
About the people named in the federal data
The federal nursing home files include the names of individual owners and managers. We do not publish those names. No page on this site shows an owner's name, a chain's name, or how many owners a home has. The names sit in our database because they arrive inside the federal file, and they are not shown on any page and are not sent to your browser.
To be exact about the size of it: the ownership file gives us 247,632 rows, and 177,462 of those name a person rather than a company. Not one of them is read by the part of our code that builds a page. The pages read a count and nothing else.
We do publish each home's business address and business phone number, because CMS publishes them and a family needs them to call and visit.
The inspection findings we show are the rule an inspector cited and how serious it was. We do not publish the inspector's written account of an incident, so no resident is described on this site. We do not hold that account either. It is not in the federal files we load, so there is nothing here to leak.
Changes to this policy
If we ever add anything that collects information, this page changes first and says what changed and when.
Contact
Write to us by post. This site has no email address, no contact form and no telephone line, because it collects nothing and has nobody to staff them.
